Bad Day

He'd had a bad day

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write as part of a group based on the same short prompt and post them. Here’s my contribution.

Arm tucked behind his back, her chamberlain escorted Celia’s guest in. Sludge dripped, no, sloughed off Kimball with each step. His equipment was ruined. The clothing was tatters held together by hope.

She leaned back when the smell reached her. Gripping her seat’s arms she prevented herself from pinching her nose. Had he visited the midden?

The chamberlain stopped, only slightly sooner than his norm, bowing. “Sir Kimball,” he said glancing at the man. “He’d had a bad day.”

Celia laughed. “I think, Kimball, my chamberlain understates?”

Kimball inclined his head. “Slightly. But a productive day.”

“Excellent.” She grinned mischievously.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
