Shadows and Light

The footsteps were moving away

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write as part of a group based on the same short prompt and post them. Here’s my contribution.

The footsteps were moving away. Pity. Abandoning the shadows, I reclined against the wall, a shadow in the torches light, and waited.

One guard looked back and I winked before ducking away and to my next cover. He hollered alerting his mates. Several more glimpses and disappearing acts later and they burst into the ballroom, a tangle of noise and light.

The thieves were as surprised as the guard. None of them noticed me slip away. Mice were easier to lead.

“Done for the evening, Princess?” Mauve said rising from the chair in my chambers.

I grinned stretching. “For now.”

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
