Trudging

You must find it before the others do

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. I hope you enjoy this week’s contribution.

Muck squelched as Ailina trudged through the swamp. If this was the blasted thing was hid, no wonder the amulet was lost. Only her mentor’s words urged her forward knowing the stakes. She’d find it before the Nydiradus.

Slumping against a twisted trunk she gulped air, rubbing her side.

“No, this way.” The voice whined with an unmistakable timbre. Firie.

Ailina slunk behind the tree before Lefnir and Firie appeared, covered in muck. Finally, a break.

“Nothing this way but ghosts.” Lefnir’s crossbow swung drunkenly as he swiveled.

She could play with Lefnir’s supersitions. Firie was useless on her own.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
