Dancing on the Edge

The land is my master

The first Wednesday in November has arrived. I’m happy to share with you this week’s flash fiction and grateful and amazed at how quickly this year is slipping away.

Mavean danced on the edge of the abyss. Her skirts caught in breezes wafting from the mists below, but her feet returned unfaltering to the ground. She longed to fall, but they were not done with her yet.

She spun and sunk to the ground, head rising to look at her audience.

Two peaks towered above her, their faces lost in the shadows of the fading light. Still, Mavean knew they watched.

They had watched her every moment since she had awoken here. She was their entertainment, as trapped as they were in stone. But perhaps she could enthrall them enough to let her fall, slip in the mists and return to her kin.

Landing she took a breath before reaching for the sky. Moving beneath their unwavering gaze, Mavean danced on the edge of the abyss.
