A Sign

He was at a crossroads

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write as part of a group based on the same short prompt and post them. Here’s my contribution.

Javi leaned against his staff. He was at a crossroads still the signs refused to speak. Thumping his staff, dust plumed again drifting nowhere. Figured.

He crouched down placing his hand against the ground. It was still. Perhaps if he–

“What are you doing?” The voice interrupted his concentration. A child stood before him, head tilted and her nose scrunched. How had he missed her approach?

“Waiting for the signs to speak,” Javi replied.

She snorted. “Luck to you.” The child whistled as she proceeded down the right fork.

At last a sign! Turning left, Javi shuddered. He abhorred whistling.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
