Bacon and Tomato

Bacon sandwiches always reminded her

What is WonHundred Word Wednesdays? It’s when a group of amazing authors and I write 100 word stories all based on the same short prompt and post them. All the variations are fun to read. Here is my entry for the week.

Bacon sandwiches always reminded her of shoulders bronzed by Sol, plants tangled in growth, and breeze chilled sweat. She’d spent endless days attempting to tame the garden. The hours made worth it when the salty bacon and vine warmed tomatoes melded together.

“Lieutenant Derricks to Engineering.”

“What now?” Grumbling, she set aside her rations. Food tubes were unappetizing, at least compared to home. Only their smell was accurate, their taste and texture were abysmal, sterilized. She pressed her hand against the bulkhead feeling the cold, the uncaring stars beyond. She’d get home. Against bacon’s call, space didn’t stand a chance.
