Not two steps into Aari’s and I’m faced with books. Bookshelves she’s said to have ensorcelled to keep curious mortals out. While walking through the shelves one may catch glimpses of the sorceress at her workshop center, invariably the curious souls ends up back at the door. I, however, swear she ensorcelled it to only show the dullest books written.
Excuses Escape
Too a few, those blessed with power, Mililath Tower blazed in the heart of the night, consumed by a magical storm raging within. However, even those a child’s stone throw away slumbered in blissful ignorance through the layer upon layer of wards sealing structure. Kellsie didn’t share either the grace or the power and stood at the storm’s heart.
Does That Work
I jerked when the hand rested on my shoulder. I swung my head to the side, peering at Ebony. Her brows were drawn down, forming a slight crease in her forehead. How long had I been ignoring her? Worse. I had no idea what she had asked.
One Moment
This isn’t a usual from the author post, but then the last several days (or months really) haven’t been usual for me. To start, I’d like to present a quick bit of flash fiction. After which will be my update.
Arrivals
Flossie scowled at the crowd milling in the predawn gloom. Their soft murmur was drowned by the roaring train. Closer. She had to get closer before Felix made his appearance. Elbows struck her, shoving her backward.
Memory Bound
The sunset made the sky a bloody mess as I stood on the battlements. I waited alone, but for what I couldn’t guess. Red had stained my death and trapped my sight still.
Following Flow
The spatter of seeds sounded harmonized with Ariade’s steps and chanting as she paced the garden, rebounding against the garden’s high walls. The ground shifted beneath her, a behemoth welcoming its own. A welcome disturbed by a disharmonious step upon the wall.
Silence Unbroken
“My presence, as always, is indispensable.” Caldar’s nod was brusque before spurring his mount down the trail. Sorrell shrugged, ducked his head, and raced after Caldar.
Watching Distractions
“Damen.” I was aware of the voice demanding my attention. Aware and ignoring as I watched the shape forming at the scanner’s limits. Fingers clamped on my shoulder and spun me to stare instead at a glowering Zoe, her face a brilliant red. “Did you hear anything I said?”
Watchers
Adrel stalked through the alley, leaping over murky, chilly puddles. In the scant light, eyes tracked her movement from the fish pile as she set her paw on the broken crate. They watched but did not advance. Good. Adrel settled in to wait.
