Dreams

He dreamed every night

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. I hope you enjoy this week’s contribution.

I watched as he sat trembling on bed. 5am already and still he fought sleep. He dreamt every night screaming. He begged every day.

Dr. Esben tapped his tablet impatiently. “Give him the sedative.”

“No,” I said. My hair masked my vision briefly as I shook my head. Esben turned toward me and I shrunk back. “He’s too lethargic.”

“We need him to dream longer if we’re going to piece together the visions. Give it to him.” I nodded scuttling away.

This was worth saving the world. At least that’s what I told myself when he looked at me stricken.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
