Feast or Famine

Why shouldn't they help themselves, after the way they'd been treated?

What is WonHundred Word Wednesdays? It’s when a group of amazing authors and I write 100 word stories all based on the same short prompt and post them. All the variations are fun to read. Here is my entry for the week.

Why shouldn’t they help themselves, after the way they’d been treated? I’d watched my king ignore their pleas, ignore their hunger and meager harvest while taking more bodies, able or not, for his war. Next year would be grim.

I’d watched unable to do anything. He’d not listen to a cook about state affairs. I was to put delectable food on the table and, thereby, not worry about being sent to fight trolls. So while it wasn’t easy to watch my hard work be ravaged, I wouldn’t report the mob. Let them eat. The guards could panic about it later.

Now see the rest!
