Haphazard Wings

He just needed something to make him feel better

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write as part of a group based on the same short prompt and post them. Here’s my contribution.

Hands shaking, Roarke grabbed the decanter. His head jerked as a crash sounded elsewhere. Silence followed.

Good. He just needed something to make him feel better. Liquid sloshed into glass, spilling over his fingers, and was gulped down. Roarke slumped against the cabinet.

“Quick money. It’ll be easy.” Roarke snorted. “Karoly damn you, there’s nothing easy about this.”

Slurping intruded on the silence after his tirade. Opening his eyes, he spotted the dragonette licking the liquid he’d spilled.

“No!” Waving his arms, he shooed the creature. It fled on haphazard wings in a crooked line, smoke trailing from its mouth.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
