Hatchlings

There was a strange wailing sound coming from the next room

What is WonHundred Word Wednesdays? It’s when a group of amazing authors and I write 100 word stories all based on the same short prompt and post them. All the variations are fun to read. In honor of the sumemr heat, I’ll be adding dragon references into my entries. Dragons make everything better. Here’s this week’s entry.

His tongue flicked his annoyance. There was a strange wailing sound coming from the next room. Again.

Hunters needed stealth, not grating noise. His mistress should’ve quieted it. Permanently. She hadn’t listened.

Twasn’t good for anything. Just squalled, ate, and slept. And took her attention. Flames of irritation licked his jaws.

Silence returned. He flicked his talons on the door after a safe time. She emerged carrying it. He snorted smoke. She placed a reassuring hand on his muzzle. It spewed vile. All over his scales.

Rearing back, he slitted his eyes angrily. Human hatchlings, not dignified. Dragonettes knew better.

Now see the rest!

  1. Ha! I love it. The mistress should have smothered it was my absolute favorite line, not that I want a baby dead, but that the dragon felt that was cracked me up. I’m imagining the baby will grow up to be the dragons best friend and they’ll do amazing things together. 🙂
