Haze Bound

She appeared like an apparition

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. I hope you enjoy this week’s contribution.

The air crawled into him until the spiced air became his own. Mind drifting with the haze, his head wobbling tracking a plume. He was aware of the chamber’s harsh stone, but only barely.

The plume twisted, gathering and changing until she appeared. Grey, and insubstantial still she watched him with an intensity even his mother couldn’t match.

“Nithya,” he said sluggish. His arm refused to raise.

“Jakab,” she said smoke rolling down her cheek like a tear. “Embrace the dusk.” He scowled at the answer to his unspoken question. A poor answer, but she dissipated before words would form.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
