Night Comes

Author Jenna Eatough's Flash Fiction Story from writing prompt: The beauty of the sunset

Wednesday has come around again, and I’m happy to present this week’s flash fiction.

Astryn stood within the doorway, watching as color faded from the sky. The coming night marred the sunset’s beauty. A night when they would be free.

Sprits. The rest of the village rejoiced, waiting to great loved ones as they brushed living world.

The one who’d visit Astryn wouldn’t brush against the world. He’d slice it.

“Astryn,” Mother screeched behind her.

Astryn glowered.

Undaunted, her mother grabbed Astryn’s arm, hauling her back. “Do you mean to invite them in?”

Astryn snorted. “My bloodline does that.”

Her mother flushed, unenthused at the remainder of her demon father. She couldn’t forget him.
