Those Left

The day my mother was kidnapped

Welcome to Wednesday’s flash fiction wherein I write, as part of a group, a flash fiction based on the same short prompt and post the story. Here’s my contribution.

Wrenching my arm free, I turned from their imploring faces. “Back, Kinale.” I flung the epitaph at the gathered men. “She’s taken, only hours ago. She’s not dead.” That silenced them . . . for a moment.

Cafroth dared speak first. “We do not diminish your pain. We ask you recall your duty to your people.”

“What of my duty to Mother?” My eyes fell upon the Orund. To take it would sunder her tie. Her chance to survive the Taih.

A hand fell on my shoulder. “To leave it risks us all.” Curse Banl and his ease reading me.

Don’t forget to read the other’s takes on the prompt. More stories go up throughout the day. Be sure to check our page on Facebook for updates as everything becomes available: WonHundred Words.
